Award winning director and ex-Frames bass player John Carney has directed the video for The Ballad of Ronnie Drew.
Filmed over two days at Dublin's Windmill Lane studios in January, Carney and his team were on hand to document the recording and the video magically captures this unique tribute to the legendary Ronnie Drew.

"The Ballad of Ronnie Drew" was written by Robert Hunter (Grateful Dead) with Bono, The Edge and Simon Carmody and has been described as "a fitting tribute" to Ronnie Drew, who topped the Irish Charts with The Dubliners 'Seven Drunken Nights' in 1967.

Ronnie Drew chose the Irish Cancer Society to be the recipient of all profits from this track. The Irish Cancer Society, is dedicated to eliminating cancer and improving the lives of those living with cancer.

Bono speaking at the time of the recording said " Ronnie is like the King of Ireland, and we are his subjects. "

Eleanor Shanley & Ronnie Drew  " EL AMOR DE MI VIDA [ The Love of My Life ] "
out now !

Since their successful collaboration a few years back, Ronnie Drew, the legendary ex Dubliner, and Eleanor Shanley, who since her time with De Dannan has gained a reputation of possessing one of Ireland’s finest voices, have been on the lookout for songs that suit their particular talents.
El Amor De Mi Vida (the title track by Warren Zevon) is a stunning album produced by Mike Hanrahan of Stockton’s Wing fame, with fresh interpretations of songs from many different genres.
The combination of Drew’s instantly recognisable gutsy, raw-edged vocals and Shanley’s much subtler delicate voice give us unforgettable versions of The Good old Days (Eels) with sax by Keith Donald, Hang Down Your Head (Tom Waits), The Ballad of Henry Lee (Nick Cave) featuring Sharon Shannon, and Farewell (Dylan) with haunting fiddle playing by Winnie Horan.
Eleanor Shanley also contributes a solo version of When God Made Me (Neil Young) and the traditional Sé Fáth mo Bhuartha, while Ronnie Drew performs a memorable version of Beautiful World (Brady) with Paul Brady on piano.

Eleanor played a benefit in support of Self Help at The Moon River pleasure cruiser in Carrick on Shannon on Thursday night, September 23rd.

A committed supporter of Self Help and the leader of our fund-raising trek to Uganda last year, Eleanor has signed up for this year's trek once more, and will be joining a party of more than 70 who travel to Ethiopia in late October.

Between recording her latest album with American gospel singer Ivan LeParr 'Another Day's Journey', she has been busily fund-raising herself in advance of the trek.

This year's Self Help trek is being lead by broadcaster Tracy Piggott, while also travelling on the expedition will be another broadcaster and former trek leader Mary Kennedy, who was the leader of Self Help's centre-piece fund-raiser back in 2001.
Eleanor was joined at her fund-raiser by Charlie McGettigan, and by local duo Eamon and Orla Daly.
The benefit was organised as part of a programme of activities taking place across the country to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Self Help's work in East Africa.

One of Ireland’s foremost traditional singers, Eleanor Shanley’s gig at Moon River was the popular soloist’s first local outing since completing the recording of ‘Another Days Journey’, a stunning new collection of American gospel inspired pieces which she has recorded with Chicago born vocalist and gospel legend Ivan LeParr.
